Mr. Shayan Manzar

Shayan Manzar is a graduate of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), from where he pursued a BA-LLB (Hon’s) degree. He has been affiliated with the LUMS Law Journal for several years, and last year he served as the Student Editor. During his undergraduate degree, Mr. Manzar served as a research assistant to Ms. Marva Khan on several projects including, training of trial court judges at the Punjab Judicial Academy, and book chapters on the history of constitutionalism in Pakistan and the Pakistani judiciary’s historical role in developing jurisprudence on federalism. He also received a research grant from the LUMS’ Office of Sponsored Programmes and Research to study determinants of judicial behaviour in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, with an emphasis on social class.

Mr. Manzar is avidly interested in constitutional law and history, and judicial politics. Hence, he focused his undergraduate research projects on tracing the jurisprudential development of the constitution of Pakistan’s Article 184 (3)’s maintainability requirements from 1973 to 2019, and the Pakistani judiciary’s role in expanding the scope of the federal legislative list since the passing of the 18th Amendment to the Pakistani Constitution.

Mr. Manzar has also been an active member of the LUMS Moot Team where he represented LUMS in multiple moot  court competitions, most noticeably the Henry Dunant Moot Competition in 2018, and the Asia Cup 2019 International Law Moot Court Competition held in Tokyo, where he ranked as the 12th best speaker in Asia.

Since his graduation, he has been hired by the LUMS Law Journal as the LUMS Law Journal Research Fellow. Mr. Manzar is enrolled in the Sindh Bar Council and is eligible to practice law in the district and sessions courts of Sindh.
