Short Review: So far as the real merit of the dissertation goes, the author has not confined himself to the mere treatment of the evolution of the Supreme Court but also comprehensively dealt with the Supreme Court in actual motion, quoting extensively from the linse are more elaborate from the constitutional aspect than from the aspect of mere Evolution of the Supreme Court. This ‘going beyond’ his subject by the author, is so much the better, for, the position of the Supreme Court can be better appreciated by examining its output, which is mainly, if not wholly, on the constitution. The author has exhaustively treated the Fundamental Rights including those of Preventive Detention, Right to Property, Abandoned Property, Freedom of Press and Person and even Independence of the Judiciary. The gamut of case law on these subjects has been discussed threadbare.

Third Lecture: Democracy, Rule of Law and Human Rights

Short Review: The subject of this lecture is quite topical and timely. We have acquired democracy, and now want to cultivate it. There is law in the country; we want rule of law. There is individual rights; we want to establish these rights. There is hue and cry all over the world for these rights. Justice Chowdhury has highlighted the very important and significant aspects of Democracy, Rule of Law and Human Rights and thereby he has enlightened our feelings and intelligence, has touched our sense and sensibility.
